Welcome to HTML5-Only WeatherWise page...
also known as just WXWISE

This page last updated: September, 2016

This page lists the Java and Flash applets that we have re-done in HTML5 (and are known as "webapps"), plus any new ones that have been created using HTML5. This means they can be run on computers, tablets, phones...as long as the browser supports HTML5.

You ask, "What is it with HTML5?" The short answer is that the browser world is (finally) coming together to a single technology that enables creation of highly interactive, on-line content that can be used on computer and mobile devices (such as phones and tablets).

While it is called "HTML5", it is actually a stack of technologies (HTML5, CSS, DOM, JavaScript) that have finally become standardized enough to be used "everywhere". We are also moving in that direction (and away from Java and Flash applets) when possible. The term "webapps" (short for "web applications" are programs that use the HTML5 technologies and run in web browsers. They are not downloaded or installed, in the traditional sense.

The webapps on this page were produced by Steve Ackerman and Tom Whittaker, with lots of input from many other people!! We appreciate the support of funding agencies, notably NASA, AMS, NOAA, NSF and EUMETSAT.
You may also get a list of all the applets and webapps sorted by topic or sorted by date of release
